fleas in the cat, dog & rabbit

Fleas are small wingless insects that feed by biting & sucking the blood of mammals. The lifecycle of the flea is very similar to the common butterfly:

The adult female lives for approximately 3 weeks on the host animal, sucking blood several times each day. Between 20 & 30 eggs are deposited every day in the animal's home environment.

The eggs develop into larvae or caterpillars, which feed on organic debris around the home. The larvae pupate within a protective cocoon from which an adult flea emerges.

Growth & development from egg to adult normally lasts 3 weeks.
